The Complete Liveaboard Packing Checklist
Everything you actually need on a week-long dive cruise — and the small things first-timers always forget.
A liveaboard is not a hotel. There is no concierge to fetch a forgotten dive computer, no pharmacy on board, and very little extra storage. After two decades of sending divers to sea, here is the packing list our team gives every guest.
Personal dive gear (carry-on)
If you own personal gear, take it. Boat rental kit varies in quality and may not fit perfectly. Always carry the essentials in your hand luggage — checked bags get lost.
- Mask (and a backup), fins, snorkel
- Dive computer + spare battery
- Regulator and dive light
- Surface marker buoy (SMB) and reel
- Logbook and certification cards
- Reef hook for current dives (Indonesia, Maldives)
Exposure protection
Even tropical water cools you over four dives a day. Pack one thickness up from what you think.
- 3 mm full wetsuit (warm tropical) or 5 mm (cooler / multiple dives)
- Hood and gloves where allowed
- Rash guard and leggings for surface and sun
- UPF 50+ long-sleeve shirt for the sundeck
Personal & medical
Most boats stock basic first aid but never specialty medications. Bring more than you think you need.
- Reef-safe (mineral) sunscreen
- Seasickness medication (patches or pills) for first 24 h
- Ear drops (alcohol & vinegar mix prevents otitis)
- Personal medication in original packaging
- Power adapter (most boats are EU 220 V) and charging cables
- Microfibre towel and beach sarong
- Cash in USD/EUR for crew tips and park fees
What NOT to bring
Drones (often forbidden in marine parks), spear guns, single-use plastic bottles (most boats provide refill stations), and your hard suitcase — soft duffel bags fit cabins much better.

Always bring your own mask, computer and exposure suit. BCD and regulator can be rented if travelling light.
How much luggage allowance?+
Most regional carriers in Asia allow 20–23 kg. A dedicated dive-bag allowance is usually possible if you book directly with the airline.
